Mental Illness in Older Adult CEU

Mental illness and substance use in older adults is becoming increasingly common globally and in Minnesota. Meadows on Fairview in Wyoming, MN, invites you to learn more about the factors leading to these illnesses, prevention and resources that you can use as a professional to assist those who are affected.

About Our Presenters: Natalie J. McNall, LICSW, Psychotherapist Supervisor of the 55+ Outpatient Program at the University of MN-Medical Center. She has worked in various mental health programs, at the U of M, since January of 1991. These include both inpatient and outpatient programs serving adults and adolescents. She has been in her current role for 8 years, providing both group therapy and supervision in this 55+ day treatment program. This program is the only one of its kind in the metro area that serves clients suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses.

Dayna Davis, LICSW, LADC, Psychotherapist Supervisor of the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program and the Adult Dual Disorder Program at the University of MN-Medical Center/M-Health. Dayna has worked at Fairview since 2001, primarily with the Dual Disorder population. Dayna is a psychotherapist and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. She was the 2017 recipient of the Counselor of the Year Award presented by the Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health. The Dual Disorder Program serves clients who have mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

Learning Objectives Include:
• Preventing depression and anxiety
• Recognizing signs and symptoms of mental illness
• Understanding dual disorders
• Identifying and addressing substance use
• Supporting those struggling with mental illness and/or substance use
